DEEPICE Summer school on modelling and statistics, September 2022

Organised by the AWI, Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung in the framework of H2020 MSCA ITN DEEPICE Project

In the framework of the DEEPICE project, a summer school on modelling and statistics sciences will be organized in Bremerhaven, Germany in September 2022 (19-23th).

5 places are available for external PhD Students


The DEEPICE Summer school will focus on statistical and modelling tools for the interpretation of ice-cores (2 ECTS) with theoretical courses and exercises.

It is aimed at PhD students who are involved in ice core climate record interpretation.

The school will include courses on:            

  • Time-series analysis in the time and spectral domain
  • Climate dynamics on glacial-interglacial time scales
  • Introduction into Earth System models 
  • Introduction to carbon cycle modelling
  • Introduction into ice dynamics

The lectures are embedded into an diverse social programme including a dinner and tour in the German Emigration Center museum, film screening, discussion on working outside academia and a ship-tour around the harbour of Bremerhaven.

Note: as the school will start on the morning on Monday 19 September and will finish in the evening on Friday 23 September, students need to travel on Sunday 18 September and Saturday 24 September to attend the whole school.

Accommodation and travel costs will not be covered by the organisers.

Accommodations near the AWI premises have been prebooked by the organisers, but the payment will have to be made by the students (350 € for 6 nights) .

Catering costs (lunches & 3 dinners) will be covered by the organisers.
